Did you know that black cats have historically been adopted at significantly lower rates than their feline counterparts? For years, these lovable companions were victims of superstition and stigma, which made it difficult for them to even have a chance to leave the shelter. However, thanks to increased awareness and recent positive portrayals in popular culture, adoption rates for black cats are finally rising. At Cats Cradle, Fargo’s beloved no-kill animal shelter, we’ve seen firsthand how these fun-loving, affectionate cats are winning hearts and finding homes. This April, in honor of National Adopt a Pet Month, Cats Cradle is working to amplify this progress by providing resources and incentives to encourage pet adoption.
The release of Disney’s new animated film, Flow, has played a pivotal role in this change. The movie’s charming portrayal of a mischievous yet lovable black cat has resonated with audiences and helped break stereotypes, showcasing their fun-loving and cuddly personalities. At Cats Cradle, we’ve seen a remarkable increase in black cat adoptions, a heartwarming trend that reflects the growing recognition of these wonderful pets.
